The village of Eressos on the island of Lesvos (Lesbos) is the poet Saphos birthplace – and the reason women-loving women everywhere are known as lesbians. In antiquity it hosted Saphos famous Academy. These days it attracts a wide variety of independent travellers of many nationalities, who rub shoulders with the local islanders in an easygoing and tolerant atmosphere.
Some come here for historical and spiritual reasons. But mostly it´s about the beach:
Three kilometers long, with crystal clear waters and plenty of room for everyone – even in high season. There is also great hiking and mountain biking terrain.
